The New School of Professional Poker Players 2015 – 2016

March 14 Sandra Wong
Welcome to the new school of poker players 2015.  After taking a small hiatus in writing and even playing poker I decided to survey the scene.  Some of the familiar faces are still around, but one thing I noticed is the new crop of sensational online wizards.  If you recognize every single player here, then I call bull craps.  Check out the list here brought to you by Pokernews.
Global Poker Index & 2015 Player of the Year.

Out of that list I only recognize three of the players.  Either I’m completely out of the loop or there’s a shiver of new young guns swimming in the shark tanks these days.  I’m willing to bet the latter.  Every several years there’s always a new generation of ultra LAGS.  One of the original LAGs was Gus Hansen then Tom Dwan, followed by Viktor Blom whom I have to say is one of the ‘sickest’ of em all.  My renewed interest came after watching a 21 year old internet phenom by the name of Fedor Holz bluffing his way in the 2015 WSOP main event.  He eventually ran into some big hands and probably unnecessarily crippled his chip stack making moves, but it’s something that caught my attention.  These newcomers probably havn’t quite experienced continued heavy losses yet in their careers and they have youth on their side.  That’s a hard combination to beat.  No wonder they say it’s a young man or woman’s game.  While Holz may not have cashed in the finals he came back strong and took down the 2016 WPT Philippines – $200,000 super high roller event!  Not bad right, for the now 22 year old German pro.  Two hundred thousand is considered life changing in this writer’s humble opinion.  Only that was just the buy in!!!  His take for 1st place was $3,463,500 after topping a field of 52 entries.  What would you NOT do for that kind of cash…
Mind numbing figures for the avg player.  For everybody else might have better luck winning the next powerball lotto!  Or if you’re Dan Bilzerian go bonkers and invest a mere $100k on powerball tickets.

*Note* Dan Bilzerian didn’t win the power ball lotto, but he’s probably still out there firing bazookas and having fun in the mile high club.
