New Jersey Players can Visit the Mohegan Sun Online

July 31 Sandra Wong

Online casino gaming is not something as widespread and natural in the United States as it is in Europe, for example. It is subject of ample political debates, with strong support for banning the whole thing from a notable land-based casino owner, while state regulators and lotteries are often fighting to make it legal and regulated. In the meantime the black casino market is flourishing, with sometimes shady operators hunting for US based customers – and this hurts the eventual legal operators’ reputation on the US market. Online gambling is legal in only three of the American states, and New Jersey is the only one that reports consistent growth and profits generated by the industry.

The authorities’ view on online gambling is very different in other parts of the world. Citizens of the US’ nothern neighbour can enjoy online entertainment with the Canadian Royal Vegas and several other similar establishments. Royal Vegas is very popular in the real money online gaming community, due to its high quality games – both random number generator and live dealer ones – and its promotions that are appealing to all player categories. The casino has players from all over the world enjoying its high quality services. And, due to the legal battles surrounding online gambling in the United States, its residents are locked out of this global gaming community.

While NJ residents have no way of registering an account at reputable European casinos, they have several local options to take into account. The state’s gaming authority allows local land-based operators to opt for offering their services online – and several of them do. The latest addition to the list of legal online gambling operations in New Jersey is Mohegan Sun, a popular land-based casino resort.

Under a fresh deal with NYX Gaming Group, a large Nevada-based gaming solutions provider, the Mohegan Sun will launch a new online gambling portal at MoheganSunCasino.com. The platform they will use is the same they used for ResortsCasino.com. Each NJ gambling operator has the option to use up to five brands with their online gambling license – and the Mohegan Sun is currently at two, with the Resorts brand preparing to launch its own online poker room, under the PokerStars brand, as a result between the company and Canadian gaming giant Amaya Gaming.

The choice for Mohegan Sun to be the next Resorts online casino brand comes after surveys conducted by the Resorts group showed that it is the best known casino brand in New Jersey. Actually, it is stronger than Borgata, Golden Nugget and Tropicana, according to Resorts director of interactive market6ing Lee Terfloth.

The other Resorts online operation, ResortsCasino.com, is doing pretty well, according to reports released by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement. While they are still far from the level achieved by Borgata Caesars and Golden Nugget, its revenues are on the rise, and its market share is becoming bigger by the month. In June the Resorts online Casino has grabbed a market share of 5% in New Jersey, growing constantly since its launch this February, and the launch of a PokerStars branded poker room – given the strength of the brand – will help it attract even more users and represent a strong competition in the state. But its competitors also have some aces up their sleeves (like Borgata’s introduction of NetEnt’s high quality games) so the race is far from being settled in New Jersey.
